Installing Lace Humbuckers

I had a client drop off this Stratocaster for some work and now I am going to get it all wired up. The owner of this guitar has it loaded up with some Lace sensor humbuckers and I am going to wire it up to have a dual coil split.  He did try to get it wired up before deciding to bring it in to me, so  I had to start by getting out some of the old components that had succumbed to the heat from that attempt.

I started with grounding one of the lugs from the volume pot to the casing. This is how to ensure that when you roll your volume knob to zero, you get no sound. This is because when the knob hits the zero mark, the signal is sent through that lug into the pot casing instead of being sent to the output jack. Let me know in the comments if you want me to explain how potentiometers work in more detail in another video. I have talked about it before, but I am considering making a full length YouTube video on the subject.

After getting the push/pull pot connected, all I really had to do was get the 5 way switch all wired up and the grounds soldered. Lace likes to use a pretty limited color palette in their wiring scheme, so if you’re ever working with these, make sure to look at the leads closely. They have orange, orange with a black stripe, white, white with a black stripe, and green. Those white and orange leads can be easy to mess up if you’re not paying full attention.

Just like that, it is time to get the guard back onto this guitar and it is ready for a setup. Let me know in the comments if you have any guitars with Lace sensors in them and what your thoughts on them are.
